WILMINGTON, N.C. – Entering the 2010 cross country season, it was obvious to many that the Virginia Commonwealth University men's squad would only go as far as its veteran tandem of Piotr Dybas and Walid Berkhedle would take them.

On Saturday, the Rams found out exactly how far as Dybas and Berkhedle led the Black & Gold to its highest finish since 2004 with a fourth-place showing at the CAA Championships, held on the campus of UNC Wilmington.

"I'm extremely pleased with the way our guys came out and did what we had been working on all year," Director of Cross Country Nicole Cook said. "Our seniors led the way with outstanding showings and to have the best finish in over five years just sets the tone for future years."

Dybas earned his first career All-CAA cross country accolade as he finished 10th overall, clocking in at 24:53 over the eight-kilometer course.

"Piotr has been a rock all year for us and really set the tone for our younger runners," Cook said. "I'm proud of the way he was able to continue that today and earn a great result."

After battling injuries throughout the fall, Berkhedle put it together to finish in 25:32, good enough for 25th place. Junior Axel Mostrag wasn't far behind his teammate in 29th place with a time of 25:50.

Junior Tyler Simmons was a stride behind Mostrag, with a 31st place finish with a time of 25:53, while sophomore Brenden Leavitt rounded out the scoring for the Rams in 36th place with a time of 26:09.
