The Short Story: Samantha Yankson won the hammer throw during the first day of the Fred Hardy Invitational, setting the tone for the second Richmond meet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Samantha Yankson won the women's hammer throw with a 46.89m mark, .10m shy of the sophomore's collegiate best.
Senior Amiaya Carey hit the 1.60m mark in high jump on her way to placing third.
In triple jump, VCU freshman Metasebia Ermias earned a second place finish. The West Springfield, Va. native leapt 11.52m.
Osawaru Oghagbon put on a solid showing in the men's shot put. The sophomore took second overall and set a new personal best with a 14.86m mark. Following Oghagbon was VCU freshman Glen Yancey in third.
Freshman Bradley Thomas hit a personal best in the 110 meter high hurdles, completing the race in 58.45.
The second day of the Fred Hardy Invitational commences tomorrow at 9 A.M. with men's and women's discus.
