RICHMOND, Va. – A new era of VCU Track & Field has arrived. That era includes consistent appearances in the NCAA postseason.

Ushering in that era are juniors Ryan Coles and Brandon Ruffin who both earned spots in the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday.

The NCAA announced the final declared athletes with Coles and Ruffin both included in the group of the top 48 shot putters in the East Region. It's the first time since 2008 that VCU is sending multiple male athletes to the NCAA postseason.

Coles enters the meet ranked 40th in the East with his school record of 58' 1", while Ruffin is just three spots back with a mark of 57' 11 ¼".

The duo are the first two throwers in VCU men's track & field history to reach the postseason.

Coles and Ruffin will make their NCAA debut on Thursday, May 29. The shot put is set to start at 4 p.m.

The top 12 athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 11-14. Davion Lambert was the last Ram to reach that stage in 2004.
