CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Apparently junior Ryan Coles of the VCU Track & Field squad didn't mind being the only Ram competing this weekend.

Coles further etched his name into the VCU record books by unleashing a throw of 171' 9" in the discus to win the event at the UVA Challenge. It was Coles' fourth win of the spring.

His throw broke his own school record in the event by over three feet. The throw broke Coles' previous record of 168' 7", which he set earlier this year at the Florida Relays.

"Ryan has been on a quest to improve himself and his throws all season. He continues to make progress and break records," Throws Coach Ethan Tussing said. "He is on the verge of having a monumental throw and we have one more week to see if it will come out at the IC4A meet."

The New Kent, Virginia native has finished in the top-four in every event he's competed in this spring, including seven top-two finishes.

Coles is now ranked in the top-55 in the East Region in both the discus (52nd) and the shot put (42nd).

The Rams are back in action next weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. before looking forward to NCAA East Preliminary Rounds later this month.
