GETTING TO KNOW: SENIOR DEANGELO WILSON
RICHMOND, Va. - The indoor track season is right around the corner and the VCU men's track & field squad will be in its first season under the tutelage of Head Coach Jon Riley.
Riley will rely on veteran leaders like senior DeAngelo Wilson in his first year with the men's squad. Prior to Wilson's final season in the Black & Gold, he sat down with VCU Athletic Communications Student Assistant Scott Wyant to talk about life off the track.
SW: Who has been the biggest inspiration on your track career?
DW: My biggest inspiration during my track career has been my family. Being the first person to earn a degree in my family was HUGE.
SW: Do you have any pre-meet rituals?
DW: The night before I lay all of my clothes out in order that I put them on. That morning I eat a HUGE bowl of strawberry yogurt and granola. During my warm-up I eat at least two bags of CHEETOS. And right before each meet I pray a simple prayer, "Lord Bless My Feet.".
SW: What are your goals heading into your senior track season?
DW: My goals heading into my senior track season are to reclaim my 100 and 200 meter dash titles and to go down as the fastest male in school history.
SW: If you had a ticket to any event, where would you go and what would you do?
DW: If I wasn't competing and had a ticket to any event I would go to London and watch the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
SW: If you could race against any track star past or present, who would you pick?
DW: If I could pick any track star to race from the past I would be Ronald Jones, my former coach. I think we would be neck and neck for the all-time 200 meter title. From the present I would love to race Tyson Gay; American muscle baby!
SW: What has been your greatest accomplishment as a Ram?
DW: My greatest accomplishment as a Ram was earning the "VCU Emerging Leader Award" this past Spring.
SW: How do you want to remember your career here?
DW: When I'm done I want to be remembered as someone who inspired others through leading by example.
Dream Job: My dream job would be to become a professional track athlete.
Favorite pro-team: My favorite football and basketball teams are the San Fransisco 49ers and the Dallas Mavericks.
Home cooked meal: Grandma's Sweet Potato Pie! Mmmmmm!
TV show: Heros
Class this semester: Public Sociology
Pre-race music: I Could Never Loose by Nipsey Hussle
