ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Alexis Heugas will hit the courts today at the University of Georgia looking to end his VCU career with a bang.
Heugas opens up play today in the NCAA Singles Championship, taking on Mississippi's Nik Scholtz at 2 p.m. Scholtz is ranked #12 in the country by the ITA and was named the SEC Player and Rookie of the Year this spring.
Heugas is the only player in the Atlantic 10 ranked in the top-75 in the country and posted 20 singles victories for the third straight year. This year alone, he took down eight opponents ranked in the ITA Top-100.
In just three seasons with the Rams, the Jurancon, France native piled 72 singles wins, all of which came in the top-two spots in VCU's lineup.
A victory today would move him into the Round of 32 and a date with either UNC's Ronnie Schneider or Auburn's Lukas Ollert.
