  • The Short Story: Senior Alexis Heugas and freshman Jean Baptiste Mateo both scored victories in singles and doubles action to lead the VCU men's tennis team to its second straight Atlantic 10 championship match with a 4-0 defeat of Duquesne in Saturday's semifinals. Freshman Vuk Velickovic scored the other singles victory for the Rams.
How It Happened
  • Mateo teamed with senior Alejandro Argente to grab an 8-6 win at #3 doubles to start the match. Heugas and partner Nick Jones followed soon after with an 8-6 win of their own to secure the doubles point for the Rams.
  • Velickovic pushed VCU's lead to 2-0 with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win over Duquesne's Mehdi Mekaoui at #6 singles.
  • Heugas brought the Rams within one point of match victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rich Robbie at #1 singles.
  • Mateo wrapped up the win for the Black & Gold with a 7-6, 6-2 win at #3 singles.
