RAMS DROP MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE, 5-2

  • The Short Story: Senior Alejandro Argente continued his outstanding spring season with another straight set victory to help the VCU men's tennis squad to a decisive 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee State. In addition to Argente, sophomore Michal Voscek and freshmen Jean-Baptiste Mateo and Wilder Pimentel notched straight set wins on the afternoon.
How It Happened
  • Argente teamed with Mateo to get the Rams rolling early with an 8-3 win at the third doubles spot. Senior Alexis Heugas and junior Nick Jones secured the doubles point for VCU with an 8-5 win at the top doubles position to grab a 1-0 lead for the Black & Gold.
  • Voscek quickly made it 2-0 in favor of the Rams with a 6-2, 6-2 win over David Fox at #3 singles.
  • Mateo continued his impressive debut spring season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sam Matheson at #5 singles. The newcomer is now 8-1 this spring.
  • Argente secured the team win for VCU with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Victor Hoang at #4 singles. He is now a perfect 8-0 this spring.
  • Pimentel pushed the Rams lead to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Aaron Jumonville at the sixth spot in VCU's singles lineup.
  • MTSU finished the match off with wins at the top two singles spots.
