SKILLMAN, N.J. – After his historic 1,000th career victory, VCU Tennis Head Coach Paul Kostin immediately gave the credit to his student-athletes and his assistant coaches. One of those assistant coaches was recognized by the ITA for his outstanding work on the sidelines this year.

In his second year with the Rams, Assistant Coach Martin Stiegwardt was named the ITA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

"I'm so humbled to receive such an honor," Stiegwardt said. "I can't say thanks enough to my peers and student-athletes that really put in the work all year long."

The Quito, Ecuador native helped the Rams to a 20-7 overall record, including a perfect 8-0 mark against Atlantic Region opponents. VCU captured its first Atlantic 10 title and 17th conference championship in the past 23 years.

VCU was ranked in the ITA Top-30 all year long, including reaching as high as 22nd. It was the 18th time in the past 25 years that the Black & Gold reached the Top-25.

During Stiegwardt's two seasons with the Rams, VCU is 43-12 overall, including a 19-2 mark against Atlantic Region opponents.
