NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Max Wennakoski is making sure he leaves VCU on a high note.

Not only has the Helsinski, Finland helped the Rams climb back  into the ITA Top 25 (#24 this week), but he was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading VCU to a thrilling 4-3 home victory over Virginia Tech last Friday.

Wennakoski teamed with freshman Michal Voscek to lock up the doubles point against the Hokies with a hard-fought 9-7 win at the second spot in the doubles lineup. He then turned around and won a down-to-wire 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 match over 81st-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus to lock up the win for the Black & Gold.

On the year, he is 27-7 overall and 15-2 this spring. He is currently #23 in the latest ITA singles rankings.

Wennakoski and the Rams are back in action at home this weekend, hosting Louisville and Memphis in critical matches.
