NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sometimes it takes a little while for first-year college students to adjust to their new lifestyle away from home.
It doesn't like freshman Michal Voscek of the VCU Men's Tennis team needed much time as he is red hot this spring and his performance in the Black & Gold's two victories last week earned him Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week accolades.
Voscek started his week by taking a quick lead on Michigan State's Dennis Bogatov, 6-2, but the Rams secured the match victory before he could finish off his own singles win.
However, on Saturday, he teamed with senior Max Wennakoski to secure the doubles point for the Rams with an 8-2 win over N.C. State's second doubles duo.
He then followed that up with securing VCU's 5-2 win over 34th-ranked N.C. State with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of the Wolfpack's Simon Norenius.
On the year, the newcomer is 16-6 overall and 7-1 this spring in singles competition.
Voscek and his teammates are back at home this weekend when they host Penn State (Saturday – 12 p.m.) and South Carolina (Sunday – 1 p.m.) at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
