HEUGAS NAMED ATLANTIC 10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two weeks in and the VCU men's tennis team is already leaving quite an impression on its new conference home.
For the second straight week, a Ram took home Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week accolades, this time it was junior Alexis Heugas. Heugas led VCU to a 5-2 win over a gritty North Florida squad to help the Black & Gold improve to 6-1 on the year.
Heugas' day started by teaming with freshman Dylan McCloskey to upset UNF's 20th-ranked doubles duo of Mortiz Buerchner and Norbert Nemcsek, 8-4. The junior then wrapped up VCU's victory with an easy 6-0, 7-5 win over Buerchner at the top singles spot.
With the win, Heugas moves to 4-1 on the spring and 14-8 overall for the year.
Heugas and the Rams are back in action this weekend when they travel to Nebraska to take on Drake in a neutral site match on Saturday, followed by a showdown with the Huskers on Sunday.
