HEUGAS, BAROZ HAVE MAGICAL RUN END IN NCAA DOUBLES QUARTERS

ATHENS, Ga. – VCU's Alexis Heugas and Antoine Baroz wanted to make sure everyone knew they weren't just satisfied with the All-American status they earned on Friday at the NCAA Doubles Championship.

The sophomore tandem did just that battling all the way to a heartbreaking third-set tiebreaker and ultimately falling to the 17th-ranked brother duo of Chris and Marcus Thieman of the University of Mississippi in the NCAA Doubles Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Heugas and Baroz came out of the gates strong, easily taking the first set 6-2 from the Thieman brothers. However, the Ole Miss pair bounced back and took the second set, 6-4. Both teams would settle in for a third-set battle with the Thieman brothers barely squeaking out the victory, 7-6.

The NCAA Quarterfinals equals the furthest that any VCU doubles tandem ever reached, equaling the feat of Florian Marquardt and Frank Moser in 2001.

Heugas  and Baroz finish their sophomore season as All-Americans and will return next year looking to lead the Rams in contention for an Atlantic 10 title.
