NORFOLK, Va. – Five of the six regulars in the VCU men's tennis lineup earned All-CAA singles honors at the annual CAA banquet on Thursday night.
The one that wasn't played the biggest role in the Rams opening win of the CAA Tournament with sophomore Antoine Baroz leading VCU to a 4-0 sweep of eighth-seeded Delaware. The Black & Gold advance to the CAA semifinals to take on the winner of fourth-seeded Old Dominion and fifth-seeded James Madison.
Baroz teamed with CAA Player of the Year, Alexis Heugas, at the top doubles position and secured the doubles point in VCU's favor with an 8-5 win over Delaware's Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton.
The Geneva, Switzerland native kept the momentum going in the singles competition with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win over Andre Vorobyov at the third singles spot to give VCU a 2-0 lead.
Junior Camil Salomon (pictured, right) jumped back in the Black & Gold lineup and picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jason Derene at#6 singles.
Heugas showed why he was named the CAA Player of the Year with a dominating 6-1, 6-4 win over Beneck at the top singles spot.
VCU will take on ODU or James Madison in the CAA Semifinals on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
