HUEGAS HIGHLIGHTS PLAY FOR RAMS AT ANNUAL UVA FALL CLASSIC

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The VCU men's tennis team was back in action over the weekend, competing in the annual University of Virginia Fall Classic at Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville.

Highlighting the Rams' play was sophomore Alexis Heugas, who cruised through the Gold Singles flight with a perfect 4-0 mark, all in straight sets, on his way to an individual title.  The Jurancon, France native picked up wins over Penn State's CJ Griffin (6-2, 6-2), Maryland's Tommy Laine (6-3, 6-1), James Madison's Hugo Ramadier (6-4, 6-1) before defeating East Tennessee State's Jeremy Bonnevalle in the final (6-0, 6-3).

Meanwhile, senior Filip Svensson (Blue Singles) [pictured] went 3-1 with his only blemish coming against No. 1 seed Justin Shane from host Virginia in the final.  Sophomore Alejandro Argente (Gold Singles) posted a 2-1 mark in his singles flight.

In doubles action, Huegas and junior Jaime Vazquez Catoira opened with a pair of wins against Penn State's Young/Cohen (8-5) and second-seeded Tuss/Stayt from Liberty (8-5) before falling to No. 1 Drew Courtney/Uriguen from Virginia (8-5) in the final.

VCU will conclude the fall season beginning Thursday, Oct. 20 at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Norfolk, Va.
