RICHMOND, Va. – The old saying, "saving your best for last," may have been directed at senior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) of the Virginia Commonwealth University men's tennis team.
After going through off-season surgery, Charron has bounced back with a 23-6 campaign and is ranked 25th in the country entering the NCAA Tournament. For his outstanding play, he was named the Farnsworth/ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year.
"Thibaut showed a lot of determination coming back from a bad injury that ended his season early last year," Head Coach Paul Kostin said. "He had showed some flashes of being really good in his first two years, but this year he changed his approach to the game and it showed. He has a chance to be a very special player."
Charron went a perfect 10-0 against regional opponents with all 10 being straight set victories. His biggest win came on March 24th when he topped third-ranked Sanam Singh of Virginia, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
The senior will look to lead his team against a very tough Duke team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in Durham on Friday, May 14th.
