LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Filip Svensson (Angelholm, Sweden) was the lone bright spot for the Virginia Commonwealth University men's tennis team this past weekend as the Rams fell to 14th-ranked Louisville on Sunday afternoon, 5-1.
Svensson picked up his second straight win at #6 singles with a straight set, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Louisville's Chidi Gabriel.
Unfortunately for the Black & Gold, that was all that could be mustered up on the scoreboard with the Cardinals picking up three straight set wins and the doubles point quickly to lock down the victory.
Freshman Max Wennakoski (Helsinki, Finland) battled Alejandro Calligari tough at #4 singles, but fell in a three-set decision, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0.
The Black & Gold enter the last week of the regular season with two matches remaining before the upcoming CAA Tournament. VCU will travel to Virginia Tech on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Hokies.
