SANTOS AND AMOROSINO EARN FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE HONORS

RICHMOND – The VCU Rams Men’s Soccer team continues to reap the benefits of a successful season in 2017, as both Rafael Andrade Santos and Francesco Amorosino earned Virginia Sports Information Directors First Team All-State honors, as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.

Santos has cleaned up on awards this season, earning recognition from all major publications and organizations, most notably earning All-American recognition just last week. The 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Santos led the league with 12 goals and 29 points. He provided VCU with five of its 12 game-winning goals in 2017. He has also earned USC All-Region and First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors this season as well.

Amorosino enjoyed a breakout senior campaign for the Rams, appearing in 19 games. He scored nine goals and two assists for a total of 20 points, good enough for second on the team behind Santos. He collected three game-winning goals on the season, and was a key asset in the offensive end, scoring in big games. He earned Second Team All-Conference by the Atlantic 10 earlier this season.

Behind the duo, the Rams rolled to a national ranking, 12 victories and a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament. His goals helped lift VCU to wins over No. 9 Maryland and No. 15 UNC Wilmington during the regular season.

In all, nine Virginia schools had representation on the all-state teams. William & Mary led the way with six selections, while Radford was just off of the pace with five picks. Virginia and Liberty had three, VCU, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion had two, while George Mason and James Madison each had one.

VaSID names 27 All-State teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relation’s professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
