RICHMOND, Va. – For the first time in the history of VCU Men’s Soccer, they will be taking an international trip. The Black and Gold will be heading to Costa Rica for 12 days, starting June 30 before returning to Richmond on July 11.
During their time internationally, the Rams will play six games against various professional teams and youth national teams. Prior to their departure, they will be allowed 10 days to train both on and off the pitch. Their on-the-field training will be supplemented by extra-curricular programming off the pitch, where the players will invest time learning about different aspects of life.
To supplement that learning, Head Coach Dave Giffard has multiple speakers prepared to come in and talk with the team about various aspects of their lives.
“We have had many past and present players from Costa Rica,” said Coach Giffard. “This trip is easy, and is a short distance…it allows the players to get together with their families.”
The NCAA allows for a program to take an international trip every four years. The Rams will be utilizing that for the first time, and will have players chronicling the trip in journals.
