RICHMOND, Va. – In preparation for his second season at the helm, Virginia Commonwealth University Head Men's Soccer Coach Dave Giffard has released the program's 2011 spring schedule.

The seven-game slate features matches against three Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, including Maryland, which captured the 2010 ACC title and represented the league as the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.  In all, the Rams will face four 2010 NCAA Tournament teams in Maryland, Virginia, UMBC and West Virginia.  VCU will also face in-state foe Virginia Tech, Campbell and the Richmond Kickers.

"The spring is a key time in the development of our young team for the 2011 season," said Giffard.  "Being able to work for several months in the weight room and on the training pitch will allow us to address areas individually and collectively that need growth.

"This spring schedule is very challenging and will allow us to get a realistic picture of where we are and what we need to do to continue to work toward our goals for next fall."

VCU opens its schedule on March 5 with three matches against Virginia, UMBC and Maryland at SportsQuest in Chesterfield, Va.  The Rams then welcome the Kickers to Sports Backers Stadium on March 23 before traveling to Campbell on March 26.  VCU faces Virginia Tech at home on April 2 and concludes the spring with an April 17th match at West Virginia.

The Rams return 2010 All-Colonial Athletic Association honorees Jason Johnson and Romena Bowie (pictured, right), while welcoming back 11 letterwinners from last year's 8-5-6 squad that made its first CAA Tournament appearance since 2007.
