RICHMOND, Va. – As the double-doubles pile up, so too does the recognition for VCU senior forward Justin Tillman (Detroit, Mich.). On Monday, Tillman was named Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Tillman averaged 21.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and racked up a pair of double-doubles in VCU road wins at Saint Louis and George Mason last week. Tillman shot .543 (19-of-35) from the field in those wins for VCU (14-8, 6-3 A-10).
At Saint Louis he scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half and overtime to lead a dramatic Rams' comeback. At George Mason, he provided 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Tillman is averaging a team-high 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game this season. He has racked up 11 double-doubles, including seven in his first nine Atlantic 10 games this year.
VCU and Tillman return to the floor on Friday, Feb. 2 when they host league-leading and 24th-ranked Rhode Island at 7 p.m. at the E.J. Wade Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. That game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
