RICHMOND, Va. – The Doug Brooks Experience is going international.

Colorful VCU shooting guard Doug Brooks (Lake Wales, Fla./Lake Wales) has signed a professional contract with MBK Handlova of Slovakia's Slovak Extraliga. Handlova finished 17-23 last season.
Brooks, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard, made a name for himself with his aggressive on-ball defense and playful style the past four seasons in a VCU uniform. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds and grabbed 56 steals, second best on the team, in 2016-17. In 2015-16, Brooks led the nation in steal percentage (6.8).  Brooks ranks eighth in school history with 170 steals.
In addition to his defensive prowess, Brooks provides long-range shooting. He knocked down 108 three-pointers in four seasons.
A fan-favorite, Brooks' on and off-court prowess earned him the moniker "The Doug Brooks Experience".
Brooks is the fourth VCU senior to sign a professional contract this summer, joining JeQuan Lewis (Milwaukee Bucks), Jordan Burgess (Romania) and Mo Alie-Cox, who is pursing a pro football career with the Indianapolis Colts. Since the end of the 2001-02 season, 31 former Rams have signed a professional basketball contract.
