MAUI INVITE, NCAA SQUADS HIGHLIGHT VCU NON-CONFERENCE SLATE

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU will host Virginia, Old Dominion and Texas, and will travel to Seton Hall and the 2017 Maui Invitational as part of its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, released Wednesday.

At a minimum, the Rams will meet five teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2017. VCU could face as many as seven 2017 NCAA squads in its 13-game non-conference slate.

Led by first-year Head Coach Mike Rhoades, the Rams will officially kick off their 50th season of hoops on Friday, Nov. 10 against Grambling State at the E.J. Wade Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. That game is expected to produce the program's 100th consecutive home sellout.

North Florida will return to the Siegel Center for the second time in three years on Nov. 13, and VCU begins a home-and-home series with intrastate foe Virginia on Friday, Nov. 17 at the Siegel Center. The Rams and Cavaliers split a home-and-home series during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

VCU will make its second-ever trip to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Nov. 20-22 in Maui, Hawaii. The Rams will meet Marquette on Nov. 20 before taking on either Cal or NCAA Tournament participant Wichita State the following day. VCU will conclude play in Maui on Wednesday, Nov. 22 against a team from a group that includes LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan and tournament host Chaminade.

The Black and Gold will return to the Siegel Center for a three-game homestand with Appalachian State (Nov. 28), rival Old Dominion (Dec. 2) and Texas (Dec. 5), a match-up that will mark Shaka Smart's return to Richmond.

The Rams will travel to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, Dec. 9 to face Seton Hall, which has reached the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons.

VCU will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule with home contests against reigning Patriot League champion Bucknell (Dec. 16), defending Big South champs Winthrop (Dec. 19) and in-state foe VMI (Dec. 22).

The Rams are coming off a 26-9 campaign and a seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2016-17. Rhoades welcomes eight new players to the fold in 2017-18 to compliment a group of returnees that includes All-Atlantic 10 Conference forward Justin Tillman (Detroit, Mich./Pershing).

Season ticket renewals for 2017-18 have been sent to current season ticket holders with an Aug. 15 deadline. Four-game packages and tickets to individual games will go on sale in October.
