The short story: Two early runs sparked by the efforts of senior JeQuan Lewis and junior Johnny Williams led the Rams to a lopsided victory over Howard Tuesday night in VCU's final non-conference contest.

OPENING TIP

  • Lewis scored 17 points in just 15 minutes of play and was 6-of-7 at the free throw line. He added six steals and five assists and committed just one turnover. Lewis led four Rams in double figures.
  • Williams was responsible for 14 points and dished out a team-best six of the Rams' season-high 22 assists. Williams committed one turnover in the game.
  • VCU shot .517 (31-of-60) from the field and .824 (14-of-17) from the free throw line on the night. 
  • The Rams scored 48 points in the first half. It marked the most points scored in a half by the Black and Gold this season.
  • Freshmen Malik Crowfield (10 points) and Marquell Fraser (7 points) turned in season-high performances for the Black & Gold.
  • Charles Williams and Cameron Lewis were the catalysts for Howard, combining for 30 of the Bison's 51 points.
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU used a 14-0 blitz early in the game and jumped out to a 16-2 lead. The Rams never trailed and never looked back. VCU led 48-22 at the half.
  • The Rams were plus-10 in turnover margin and outscored Howard 24-12 off turnovers.
  • VCU held the Bison to .360 (18-of-50) shooting from the field.  
  • Eleven Rams appeared in the game and 10 scored at least one bucket. VCU's bench accounted for 42 of the Rams' 85 points.
  • VCU assisted on 71 percent (22-of-31) of its made baskets.

  • VCU its season-high fourth straight game.
  • With his six steals, Lewis moved to seventh on VCU's all-time list, surpassing Eric Maynor. He has grabbed 12 steals in his last two games.
