> After two wins inside the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center last week, the Rams return to the road looking for a third straight victory overall and third straight in the head-to-head series against heated rival, Old Dominion.
> This will be the 88th meeting between the two schools that are separated by less than 100 miles. VCU owns a 45-42 advantage in the head-to-head series, with the Rams sweeping the season series last year. It was the first season sweep in the series since 2003-04.
> Tonight's meeting is just the 24th time that the two schools have met as non-conference foes. The two schools spent nine years together as members of the Sun Belt (1982-1991) and then 17 more years together as members of the CAA (1995-2012). ODU holds the edge in non-conference games, 13-10, while VCU holds a 35-29 edge in conference showdowns.
> Tonight also brings together the two winningest programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia over the past 10 years. VCU tops the chart with 226 with ODU in second with 213. George Mason is the only other program in the Commonwealth with over 200 wins during that span (203). During the 10 year stretch, the Rams have been to the NCAA Tournament five times, while ODU has gone dancing four times during that span.
> VCU looks to continue its success away from home tonight with the Rams having won 90 road/neutral games since the start of 2005-06, the seventh-most in the country over that stretch. That's been even more impressive in recent years with the Black & Gold ranking third nationally in road/neutral wins since the start of the 2010-11 season with 35. Only Kansas (38) and Kentucky (36) have more.
> December has treated Coach Smart and the Rams well in recent years. In Coach Smart's three-plus seasons at the helm, VCU is 16-4 in the final month of the calendar year, including entering tonight with a victories in 11 straight December games.
> HAVOC is in full swing for the Rams with back-to-back games of 20+ turnovers forced and 14 steals in each of the past two games. Entering tonight, VCU ranks sixth in steals per game with 11.6 and eighth in opponent's turnover percentage with 27.5%.
> Junior Juvonte Reddic is an emerging star for the Rams with double-figures in seven of VCU"s eight games this year, while leading the team with 15.3 ppg and 8.6 rpg. Dating back to last season, Reddic has scored in double-figures in 10 of his last 11 regular season games, averaging 15.7 points and 9.1 rebounds, while shooting 59.2% from the field over that stretch.
