RAMS WRAP UP HISTORIC SEASON WITH SOLD-OUT END OF THE YEAR BANQUET
RICHMOND, Va. – The Jefferson Hotel has served as the host for a long list of celebrities and plenty of historic events.
On Monday night, it added another event to that list as the VCU men's basketball team held its seventh annual end of the year banquet at the historic venue. The sold-out event commemorated an unforgettable season that saw the Black & Gold reach the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and set a school record for wins with 29.
"This was a night for everyone involved with our program to truly celebrate the accomplishments of this team," Head Coach Shaka Smart said. "It was a tremendous event that really allowed all of us from the players to the coaches to the fans to the support staff to try and reflect what took place over the past six or seven months."
With help from his coaching staff, Smart then handed out the team awards with the winners being:
Most Improved – Troy Daniels
Most Assists – Darius Theus
Leading Rebounder – Juvonte Reddic
Ram Strength Award – David Hinton
Defensive Player of the Year – Darius Theus
Havoc Award – Briante Weber
Academic Excellence Award – Rob Brandenberg
Leadership Award – Bradford Burgess
Most Valuable Player – Bradford Burgess
The evening was wrapped up with a year-end video before pictures, autographs and handshakes were exchanged with everybody in the room.
"It's just one way to thank the best fans in the country for their support all year long," Smart said.
