RICHMOND, Va. – The month of March was a time that no VCU basketball fan will ever forget. Head Coach Shaka Smart and the VCU men's basketball team climbed the proverbial hill all the way to the school's first-ever Final Four.

During the first week of May, Smart will literally climb the hill on two occasions. This time, that hill will be a pitcher's mound as the second-year head coach will toss at ceremonial first pitches on May 3 and 8.

On the 3rd, he'll toss out the opening pitch before the Rams baseball team battles top-ranked Virginia at The Diamond.

"This athletic department is one big family," Smart said. "My coaching staff and I try to get out to show our support as much as possible and this is just one small way to show Coach Keyes and his guys that we're pulling for them."

On the 8th, Smart will head to Wrigley Field to not only throw out the first pitch, but also sing "Take Me Out to The Ballgame."

The Madison, Wisc. native frequented Wrigley with his grandfather to root on their beloved Cubs, so the trip will be a dream come true of sorts.

"Some of my memories with my grandfather are going to Wrigley Field, sitting on the first base side trying to catch some foul balls," Smart said. "There's nothing like a game there."
