The chorus of the hit song Summertime by the Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff repeats these words, “Summer, summer, summertime, time to sit back and unwind.”
Apparently that doesn’t apply to everyone, especially up-and-coming NBA stars like former VCU standouts Eric Maynor and Larry Sanders. The former Rams will both be busy competing in NBA Summer Leagues in Orlando and Las Vegas, respectively.
Maynor opened up on July 5th by dishing out five assists and tallying 15 points to lead his Oklahoma City Thunder squad to a come-from-behind win over the Celtics’ Summer League squad.
In all, Maynor and his Thunder teammates will play five games in five days concluding with an 8 a.m. match-up with the Indiana Pacers (no Reggie Miller sighting scheduled) on Friday morning.

Sanders, who was picked 15th overall last month by the Milwaukee Bucks, will make his NBA Summer League debut on Monday, July 12th when the Bucks face-off against the Dallas Mavericks summer league team in Las Vegas.
The Bucks will play five games in six days in Sin City, concluding with a 4 p.m. EST contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers (who may or may not be still mourning the loss of LeBron James).
Maynor and Sanders represent VCU’s back-to-back first round NBA Draft picks over the past two seasons, which gave the Rams the distinction of being the only school in the Commonwealth of Virginia to have consecutive first-rounders.
