KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Virginia Commonwealth University golf team placed four players in the top-50 and cruised to a fifth place finish in the Irish Creek Collegiate over the weekend.

Sophomore Rocky Khara led a group of four Rams golfers with a tied 14th finish. The Serbing, Fla. native shot first round 68, and followed with rounds of 73 and 71 to finish at -1 for the tournament.

Senior Matt Smith shot a team-low 67 on Sunday to finish tied for 25th with a +3. Smith was one stroke better than teammate Marc Dobias who finished tied for 29th with a +4.

Sophomore Matt Ball Jr. rounded out the Rams in the top 50 with a tied for 40th finish. The sophomore finished with rounds 76, 71, and 73 to finish +7 on the tournament.

National ranked, Kent State took home the title shooting -27 on the weekend with team rounds of 280, 273, and 272.

The Rams look to build on their fifth place finish as they return to action next weekend as they head to Wallace, N.C. to play in the River Landing Intercollegiate starting on April 6th.
