SAN MARTIN, Calif. – The PGA TOUR has become wide open in the past couple years with unknowns and fresh faces taking the spotlight each weekend.
Former VCU standout, John Rollins, continued to prove he could become one of those players to take the spotlight very soon after posting his third top-10 finish of the 2011 season this past weekend at the Frys.com Open, hosted by the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif.
He finished the weekend sixth on the leaderboard with a 13-under par 271, just four shots off the leaders and one shot behind PGA legend Ernie Els.
With the top-10 finish, he took home a purse of $180,000, his third biggest payday of the year. On the year, Rollins has earned $1,223,456. He has earned a spot in the top-25 on six occasions.
Rollins, a Richmond, Va. native, continues to excel with the driver, ranking second on the TOUR in total driving, which combines driving distance and driving accuracy percentage.
Next up for the former Black & Gold star is the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Ga. Play is set to get underway on Thursday, October 13.
