HUNTINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University Golf Team kicks off its 2011 fall season Sept. 12-13 at the 42nd annual Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club.

The Rams, Colonial Athletic Association runners-up in April, will play amongst a competitive, 15-team field that includes Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Louisville, Northwestern, Ohio State, Ohio University, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Wright State, and Xavier. The schedule calls for 36 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, followed by 18 holes Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
VCU returns All-CAA First Teamer Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) one the league's most impressive freshmen in 2011. Also back is sophomore Rocky Khara (Sebring, Fla.) who placed second at last season's CAA Championships and Chase Sargent (Orlando, Fla.), who was fifth at that event.
The Rams also boast an impressive quartet of newcomers. That group includes junior Marc Dobias (Lausanne, Switzerland), a transfer from Midland Community College. Dobias was busy this summer, advancing to the final 16 of match play at the British Amateur Championships before heading off to Shenzen, China to represent Switzerland at the World University Games.
