RAMS MOVE TO THIRD, REMAIN WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE AT CAA CHAMPIONSHIP

PINEHURST, N.C. – Freshman Rocky Khara (Sebring, Fla.) fired a second-round 71 as Virginia Commonwealth University moved into third place on the second day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at Pinehurst No. 8.

The Rams, who began the day in fourth place, combined for a team total of 296 on Saturday to leapfrog over James Madison. VCU is 24-over after 36 holes on the 7,092-yard, par 72 course. Favored UNC Wilmington will take a 10-stroke lead over George Mason into Sunday's final round. The Seahawks are 11-over, 13 strokes in front of VCU. Two years ago, the Rams overcame a 12-stroke deficit to overtake Georgia State for the championship.
 
Khara recorded four birdies on the day to move into third place in the individual standings. At 1-over, Khara is just two strokes off the pace of leader Josh Brock of UNC Wilmington. Neil Henderson of Old Dominion is currently second at even par.
 
Freshman Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) and junior Chase Sargent (Orlando, Fla.) are tied for 14th overall at 7-over for VCU.
 
VCU will play in the lead group in Sunday's final round and tee off on the No. 1 tee at 8:45 a.m.
