GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Senior Chase Sargent (Orlando, Fla.) fired three outstanding rounds and placed 13th overall to spur Virginia Commonwealth University at the Desert Shootout at the Palm Valley Golf Course.
VCU placed 10th overall with a three-day total of 862 strokes, six behind ninth-place Houston. Oklahoma (816) ran away with the team championship by 22 strokes. Iowa State (838) was second, followed by TCU (839), North Texas (843), Tulsa (844) and BYU (845), respectively.
Junior Matt Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) was 43rd for the Rams, firing an even-par 216, while freshman Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) and senior Mark Jargren (Helsingborg, Sweden) were 54th overall at 3-over.
The Rams return to play on April 2-3 when they head to Baton Rouge, La. For the LSU Intercollegiate at the University Club.
