WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Mark Jargren (Helsingborg, Sweden) closed with back-to-back strong rounds to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a sixth place finish at the Seahawk Intercollegiate Monday at the Country Club of Landfall.

The Rams, playing in their first tournament of the spring season, finished with a three-round total of 906, 42-over par. VCU outpaced Colonial Athletic Association rivals Old Dominion (ninth), Georgia State (10TH), Towson (11th) and Delaware (12th). Host UNC Wilmington (+15) took home the team championship, followed by Liberty (+19), Wake Forest and East Carolina (+24) and South Carolina (+26), respectively.
Jargren tied for 17th place, individually after firing a second-round 69 on Sunday, followed by Monday's 75. It was a strong finish for the four-year starter, who opened with a 79 during Sunday morning's first round.
VCU junior Matt Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) carded a final-round 71 to place 27th, while freshman Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) took 30th.
The Rams will return to action on March 11-13, when they head to Pinehurst, N.C. and Pinehurst #6 for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
