MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. – Behind a blistering second round, including a hole-in-one from Josh Brock, UNC Wilmington raced out to a seven-stroke lead on the first day of the rain-soaked Verizon Wireless VCU Shootout Monday at the Hermitage Country Club.
The Pirates are second at 5-under par. UNCW, East Carolina and Wake Forest, which is tied for third with Richmond at 2-under, will play in the lead group during Tuesday's final round. The shotgun start is slated to commence at 8:45 a.m.
Iowa State's Nate McCoy (69-68=137) and ECU's Harold Varner (70-67=137) are tied for the individual lead at 7-under. Varner placed fourth at this event a year ago.
