VCU PLACES 13 AT UNCG BRIDGESTONE COLLEGIATE
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) finished at even par and led Virginia Commonwealth University to a 13th place finish at the 54-hole UNCG Bridgestone Classic Sunday at the Forest Oaks Country Club.
Campos was the Rams' top golfer on the weekend, shooting 70-73-73—216 to tie for 26th place. VCU combined to shoot 19-over (288-291-304=883) on the weekend and tied for 13th with Minnesota.
Georgia Tech (21-under) captured team champion honors by a seven-stroke margin. The Yellow Jackets' winning total of 843 is the lowest in the five-year history of the tournament. Virginia placed second at 14-under, while Michigan was third at 11-under.
Also for the Black and Gold, senior Vincent Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) and sophomore Evan Boyer (Raleigh, N.C.) tied for 45th overall at 7-over, while senior Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) was 8-over and placed 53rd.
With Sunday's finish, VCU wrapped up Fall action. The Rams return to competition March 1-2, 2010 when they head to Wilmington, N.C. to appear in the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.
