GRIFFIN SPURS RAMS TO FIFTH AT RIVER LANDING
WALLACE, N.C. – Senior Lanto
Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) finished 1-under to lead
Virginia Commonwealth University to a fifth place showing at the
River Landing Intercollegiate Saturday.
Griffin, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, fired a final round
73 to place 15th. He shot 70-72-73=215 for the 54-hole event.
Fellow senior Vincent
Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) placed 19th overall, one shot
behind Griffin (71-71-74=216).
VCU was 2-over (287-292-287=866) at the two-day event and finished
tied with Maryland. Co-Host and Colonial Athletic Association rival
UNC Wilmington captured the team championship with a final score of
847 (283-282-282), good for 17-under on the Par 72, 6,900-yard
River Landing course. North Carolina (-15), Co-Host East Carolina
(-5) and Wofford (-3) trailed the Seahawks.
Also for the Rams, sophomore Chase
Sargent (Orlando, Fla.) was 1-over (75-72-70=217)
placed 22nd, junior Mark Jargren
(Helsingborg, Sweden) was 34th at 5-over (73-77-71=221)
and senior Rafael
Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was 50th
(73-79-73=225).
VCU returns to action April 9-10 when it heads to Raleigh, N.C.
for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf
Course.
