GILBERT, Ariz. – VCU Field Hockey has earned a 2017 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award in addition to having five Division I Scholars of Distinction and 15 members on the Division I National Academic Squad.
As a team, VCU posted a cumulative GPA of 3.49 during the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year. The Rams were one of 75 Division I programs that earned the National Academic Team honor which required a team GPA of at least 3.0 or higher. The Rams continue their academic success after 17 Rams earned NFCHA All-Academic Squad last season while the team also earned National Academic Squad honors.
Svea Sturm, Jordan Rasure and Bentley Zabicki each earned NFCHA Division I Scholars of Distinction honors. To earn those honors, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.90 cumulative GPA during the fall semester. Zabicki also earned the honor last season.
Alexis Albright, Jamee Albright, Natalie Bohmke, Chessa Kownurko, Alaina Madeline, Annie Miller, Colleen Rogers, Maite Sturm, Hannah Tammaro and Emily van Hijfte earned National Academic Squad honors in addition to Zabicki, Rasure and Svea Sturm.
The Rams posted 14 wins during the fall semester, the second-most in school history, and finished tied for second in the Atlantic 10 standings.
All of the VCU student-athletes honored by the NFHCA were significant contributors on the squad this past season.
