BEAN ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF WEIDMAN TO FIELD HOCKEY STAFF

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Field Hockey head coach Stacey Bean has announced the addition of Kathi Weidman as an assistant coach for Rams.

Weidman has spent the past five seasons coaching Providence College, her alma mater. For the past two seasons, Weidman served as an assistant coach, primarily working with the goalkeepers. She also handled the day-to-day operations of the program.

"I'm excited to welcome Kathi to VCU.  She is an excellent young coach who has demonstrated a willingness to learn, to teach and to go above and beyond to help develop student-athletes on and off of the field throughout her career.  Kathi's ability to develop the technical skills and tactical awareness of our athletes made her the ideal candidate to add to our staff," Bean said.

With Weidman as an assistant coach, the Friars recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2007-08 and compiled a 24-14 record. Prior to being named an assistant, Weidman served as a graduate assistant for Providence from 2013-16. During that time, she also worked in Providence's College Office of Academic Services, serving as a Student-Athlete Academic Advisor Intern.

The Millersville, Pa., native was a four-year letter winner as a goalkeeper for Providence from 2009-2012. In her senior season, Weidman appeared in 17 games, earning 16 starts, and recorded a 0.722 save percentage with a 2.01 goals against average. She was also a four-time Big East All-Academic Team honoree.

In addition to coaching the Friars, Weidman served as the goalkeepers coach at Lead the Way Field Hockey Club in Seekonk, Mass. since 2016 and had been a guest coach with the club since 2010.

Weidman earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Providence as well as a Master of Education degree in counseling.  She has also completed her Level 2 Coaching accreditation with USA Field Hockey.

Weidman joins a Rams team that won 14 games in 2017, the most in a season for VCU since 1992, and appeared in the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since 2013.
