McNamara, a junior, earned All-NFHCA Second Team Honors for the second straight season while Sturm, a freshman, earned the honors for the first time.
McNamara led the A-10 this season in goals scored (21), in total points (51) and shots (127). McNamara also ranked third in the conference in assists (9). Her 21 goals and 51 total points are both VCU single-season records. McNamara's 51 points were led the Atlantic 10. She also earned A-10 Player of the Week honors three times this season and ranked in the top five nationally in Division I in goals per game and points per game.
Maite Sturm earned A-10 All-Rookie Team honors after scoring six goals and adding an assist while being extremely versatile for the Rams and playing multiple positions. She scored a goal against both Villanova and Drexel and added two goals for VCU in the win at Richmond. She also scored a goal against LIU-Brooklyn and Davidson while adding an assist in the win against St. Francis (Pa.). Maite was also named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Aug. 28.
The Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Region squads were announced on Monday with 160 student-athletes receiving either first or second-team recognition across the five regions.
The All-Region lists included the Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West. The All-Region squads consisted of 63 seniors, 49 juniors, 25 sophomores and 23 freshmen, based on year of eligibility during the 2017 season.
