NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Field Hockey had six players earn Atlantic 10 Conference honors as announced by the conference on Thursday.

VCU placed Emily McNamara and Spencer Tossone on the All-Conference First Team, Svea Sturm on the All-Conference Second Team, Chessa Kownurko and Natalie Bohmke on the All-Conference Academic Team and Maite and Svea Sturm on the All-Rookie Team.

McNamara earned first team honors along with teammate Spencer Tossone. McNamara led the A-10 this season in goals scored (21), in total points (51) and shots (127). McNamara also ranked third in the conference in assists (9). Her 21 goals and 51 total points are both VCU single-season records. McNamara's 51 points were nine points better than A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, Anna Willocks of A-10 regular-season champion Saint Joseph's. McNamara also earned A-10 Player of the Week honors three times this season and ranked in the top five nationally in Division I in goals per game and points per game.

Tossone joined McNamara on the first team after leading the A-10 in assists (12). The 12 assists are tied for the fourth-most in a season by a Ram. Tossone ranks 18th in Division I in assists per game at .63. For her career, she has 27 assists which place her second all-time at VCU. In addition to her 12 assists, Tossone also scored a career-high seven goals and was second on the team with 26 points.

Svea Sturm earned All-Conference Second Team honors as well as All-Rookie Team honors after scoring seven goals on the season. Svea scored two goals in VCU's win over Villanova and scored a hat trick against LIU-Brooklyn. She also added a goal against Ohio and La Salle. Sve tied with Tossone for 13th in the A-10 in goals scored (7).

Maite Sturm joined her sister on the All-Rookie team after scoring six goals and adding an assist while being extremely versatile for the Rams and playing multiple positions. She scored a goal against both Villanova and Drexel and added two goals for VCU in the win at Richmond. She also scored a goal against LIU-Brooklyn and Davidson while adding an assist in the win against St. Francis (Pa.). Maite was also named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Aug. 28.

Chessa Kownurko and Natalie Bohmke both earned All-Academic Team honors. For Kownurko, a chemical engineering major, she earns the honor for the second consecutive season. She holds a 3.84 cumulative GPA during her time at VCU and started every game for the Rams in 2017. Kownurko allowed the third-fewest goals in the A-10 this season and ranked third in goals against average (1.35). She also posted six shutouts on the season. Kownurko was named the A-10 Co-Player of the Week on Aug. 28.

Bohmke, an Exercise Science major with a cumulative 3.75 GPA, earned All-Academic Team honors for the first time.
