GILBERT, Ariz. – The 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game roster was announced on Wednesday as VCU goalkeeper Chessa Kownurko was selected while Spencer Tossone was named one of 12 alternates.
34 field players are selected for the contest along with four goalkeepers and 12 alternates. Kownurko was selected as one of the four goalkeepers for the contest that will be held on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the University of Louisville.
"We are extremely proud to have Chessa and Spencer selected to represent the VCU in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game. The standards to make the roster for this event are very high, so for our program to have student-athletes selected among the top seniors in the nation this season is a tremendous honor. Our whole team is beyond excited that Chessa and Spencer will have the opportunity to showcase both our VCU Field Hockey program and their skills on this stage," said head coach Stacey Bean.
Kownurko has started all 15 games this season and has a 1.47 goals against average. She has made 55 total saves and has a .714 save percentage so far on the season. Kownurko was also named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Aug. 28. She played in all 18 games last season for the Rams making 114 total saves with a .695 save percentage.
Tossone has played in 67 games for the Rams so far in her career with 11 goals and 22 assists. She led the squad in 2016 in assists with 11 and has a team-high seven assists this season and ranks second on the team this season with five goals. Tossone is tied for fourth in VCU history in career assists with 22.
The Senior Game contest will be played following the semifinals of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament, which takes place on Nov. 17 at 2 and 4:45 p.m. at Louisville. The NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship will be held on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
