Richmond, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Head Field Hockey Coach Laura Baker has resigned immediately. Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin announced today that a national search for Baker's replacement will begin immediately.
"I want to thank Coach Baker for her service to Virginia Commonwealth University and our student-athletes," McLaughlin said. "We wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
Baker compiled a record of 28-46 (.378) during her four-year tenure as head coach of the Rams. That record includes a mark of 10-21 (.323) in Atlantic 10 competition. The team has not qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament since 2013.
"We will hire a new coach who raises the standard for our program while living our department core values, most importantly Student-Athlete Focus and Drive to Excel," McLaughlin said. "We have increased our investment in the program significantly over the last four years. I'm confident that we will find someone who can coach us to compete for championships while continuing our high level of academic achievement."
