NORTH CAROLINA, UMASS HIGHLIGHT 2016 SLATE

FULL SCHEDULE

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU will visit national runner-up North Carolina and will rekindle a number of Atlantic 10 Conference and intra-state rivalries as part of the Rams' 2016 schedule, released Monday.

The Rams kick off their 2016 campaign with an exhibition match with American on Aug. 15 at Cary Street Field. VCU will open the regular season with a two-match New Jersey swing to Monmouth (Aug. 26) and Rutgers (Aug. 27).

VCU will host Longwood on Sept. 9 in the Rams' home opener at Cary Street Field. On Sept. 11, the Rams will travel down to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to battle the North Carolina Tar Heels, who fell to Syracuse in the 2015 National Championship Match.

The Rams open their eight-match A-10 slate at Davidson on Sept. 16. Defending league champion UMass will visit Cary Street Field on Oct. 7. VCU will also host cross-town rival Richmond on Oct. 21, followed by longtime in-state foe William & Mary on Oct. 23.

VCU was 6-12 in 2015, including 3-5 in the A-10. Fourth-year Head Coach Laura Baker welcomes back the bulk of last year's squad, including All-Atlantic 10 Second Team pick Emily McNamara (Chantilly, Va.), who led the team in goals, assists and points as a freshman, and second-leading scorer Jamee Albright (Suffolk, Va.).
