Short Story: VCU Field Hockey team concluded its 2014 home schedule with a 2-0 loss to Atlantic 10 leader Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the game, the team honored its five seniors: Nicole Barry, Nicola Breeman, Kendell Combs, Stacey Farr, and Kacie Yang

How It Happened

  • Following a scoreless first half, Lock Haven's Nakira Downes put the Lady Eagles on the board in the 44th minute.
  • Rachel Valentine extended Lock Haven's lead, 2-0 in the 50th minute, securing the win.
  • VCU's best chance came late in the game when Kendell Combs had two shots on the cage, but both were turned away.
Quotable
"I think today was a game of two halves for us," said head coach Laura Baker. "In the first half we held Lock Haven well, but couldn't capitalize on our circle penetrations. In the second half Lock Haven stepped up their intensity and we didn't play the possession hockey that we were looking for. We have to be much better in our attacking half of taking the opportunities we are given. We just weren't good enough inside our attacking circle today."

"Today we honored our senior class," said Baker. "Together they have helped to continue building this program and we can't thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to VCU field hockey over the past four years."
