RICHMOND, Va. – Entering this past week, senior Emilie Soares of the VCU Field Hockey team could look at the calendar and realize that she only had 10 guaranteed games left in her collegiate career.

Soares is trying everything possible to extend that career after having a huge week with five goals and two assists to help VCU cap off a stretch of five games in nine days. Her efforts this past week landed her Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week accolades. It's the second straight week that a Ram has won the award with classmate Stephanie DeMasi winning the honor last week.

The Santa Clara, Calif. native started out the week scoring VCU's lone goal in a tough 2-1 home loss against in-state rival Longwood on Wednesday night.

Soares and the Rams bounced back on Friday with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Radford, in which she tallied the game-winner in the 58th minute with an assist from junior Nicola Breeman.

Sunday saw Soares net her second hat trick in the past five games and third of her career with all three goals coming in the first half against Appalachian State. In the second half, she netted two assists to spark VCU's 8-1 rout of the Mountaineers.

With her five goal, two assist week, Soares is now the conference leader in points with 25 and second in goals with 10.

The Rams have now won four of their last five and enter conference play next Sunday against crosstown rival and defending regular-season champions, Richmond. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
