GETTING TO KNOW: KENDALL CLIFTON
VCU Athletics is enjoying some of the best success in its near 50 years of history. That success has come both on the playing field and in the classroom. That success does not happen without the hardwork and dedication of our 270-plus student-athletes.
However, there's more than just the classroom and playing field for our student-athletes and that's why every Wednesday VCUathletics.com will bring you a Getting to Know feature on one of our student-athletes.
This week, we chatted with sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Clifton of the VCU Field Hockey team. The Lorton, Va. native has been a crucial piece of the Rams' chemistry this season and gives Head Coach Laura Baker plenty of depth in the cage.
VCU Center for Sports Leadership Graduate Assistant Zach Reynolds chatted with Clifton recently.
Here's your chance to Get to Know: Kendall Clifton.
ZR: How did you decide VCU was the right place for you?
KC: I chose VCU because it had the perfect balance of everything I was looking for in a school. Academically, the business program here is phenomenal. Field hockey wise, the coaches are very knowledgeable and the team is always so fun. I also love that the campus is in a city, so there is always something to do.
ZR: Beyond sports, where do you see yourself in ten years?
KC: After VCU, I hope to pursue a career in law enforcement specifically with the FBI or Secret Service. Leading up to my career, I hope to be given the opportunity to give back to the sport of field hockey by helping coach at my high school.
ZR: What are your goals for the season?
KC: Our team goal for the season is to win the A-10 Tournament. My personal goal for this season is to stay positive and to help my team carry on a winning record.
ZR: What is your favorite athletic moment at VCU?
KC: My favorite athletic moment at VCU was experiencing such a great season my freshman year, by having the 2nd highest winning record in VCU history.
ZR: What is one thing many people do not know about you?
KC: I started playing field hockey when I was only a sophomore in high school.
ZR: If you could be any fictional character, who would it be, and why?
KC: Batman because he saves lives and is [awesome].
ZR: Is there a professional athlete, or former player, whose skills you emulate?
I try to emulate Laura Baker's (head coach of VCU field hockey) excellent field hockey skills. She's a great leader and a great coach which makes her an amazing mentor.
