RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Field Hockey dynamo Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) will get chance to show off her skills to a whole new audience in November.
The senior forward, who set program records for career goals and points earlier this year, has been selected for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game, which will be held Nov. 17 at Old Dominion in Norfolk. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
"As a staff, we are thrilled for Kelsey and her selection to the Senior All-Star Game," said VCU coach Shannon Karl. "This honor reflects Kelsey's excellent playing career at VCU and acknowledges Kelsey's contributions to our field hockey program, department and university as a whole. We are thankful to our fellow coaching colleagues for recognizing Kelsey and helping to honor her achievements."
Senior Game participants will play a series of four 25-minute periods against the U.S. Women's National Field Hockey Team and each other.
Scherrer leads the Rams with 16 goals and 41 points this season. She has the game-winning goal in three of VCU's 13 victories, and her efforts have helped spur the Rams to an Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament bid.
In four seasons, Scherrer has rung up a school-record 53 goals and 130 points. She was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team in 2010 and 2011 and was a second team pick as a freshman. Scherrer has been selected to the NFHCA/Longstreth All-South Region Second Team each of the last three seasons.
