RICHMOND, Va. - There's a quote out there that says, "First impressions are the truest form of one's self."
Well that's good news for the VCU field hockey program and freshman Kendall Combs. Just two games into her collegiate career, Combs has already made an instant impact and for her play she was named the CAA Co-Rookie of the Week.
"Kendall's got a ton of potential and we really saw over the weekend," Head Coach Kelly McQuade said. "She's got a chance to be a really special player for us."
The Suffolk, Va. native scored two goals and unleashed 12 shots over the weekend for the Black & Gold. VCU went 1-1 in the opening weekend, capping it off with a decisive 4-1 win over Appalachian State in the Rams' home opener.
Combs came to VCU after a standout high school career at Lakeland High School, where she earned 2010 NFCHA Regional All-American honors after guiding her team to a perfect 24-0 record and the school's first VHSL AAA State Field Hockey title.
The Black & Gold return to action this weekend when they travel to Chicago for two games, taking on Northwestern on Friday and Albany on Saturday.
