FIELD HOCKEY RANKED IN TWO POLLS

RICHMOND, Va. – After a strong start, Virginia Commonwealth University is catching the attention of pollsters.

The Rams are ranked 19th in this week's WomensFieldHockey.com poll, one spot ahead of CAA-rival Old Dominion. Four Colonial Athletic Association teams made the top 20, including James Madison (No. 16) and Drexel (No. 17). Additionally, FieldHockeyCorner.com released its Sept. 16 computer rankings with VCU positioned 15th.

VCU is 3-3 after victories over Northwestern, Saint Joseph's and Richmond. All three of the Rams' losses have come to squads currently ranked in both the Kookaburra/NFHCA National Coaches and the WomensFieldHockey.com polls. Those three matches, including VCU's 3-1 loss to fourth-ranked Princeton on Sunday, have been decided by a total of four goals.

The Black and Gold returns to action on Friday, Sept. 17 when it meets LaSalle at 3 p.m. on the campus of Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
